Sirkka Kyllikki Tuomisto, passed away peacefully on March 31, 2010 at the age of 90 years.
She was born on September 12, 1919 in Hausjärvi,Finland. Sirkka was educated in Finland, then moved to Canada with her husband Heimar in 1957. Sirkka was employed at the Northwestern Regional Library until her retirement. Her many community involvements included the Ladies of Kaleva and the Suomi Koti Ladies Auxiliary. Sirkka had a passion for travel and enjoyed numerous road trips around the continent with Heimar. When at home, she enjoyed crocheting and knitting.
Sirkka was predeceased by her husband Heimar and her parents Väinö and Aino Sohlman. She is survived by relations in Finland and Thunder Bay. She will always be remembered with warm hearts by Aki and Sandra Peltonen, Vesa and Jennifer Peltonen, and their families.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 7th, 2010 in the Chapel of Harbourview Funeral Centre, 499 North Cumberland Street, officiated by Pastor Jari Lahtinen of Hilldale Lutheran Church. Interment will take place in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to the time of Service. If friends so desire, donations may be made in Sirkka’s memory to the Finlandia Club Building Fund, Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation-Northern Cancer Fund, or to the charity of your choice.
