1965-2025
He fought as long as he could, but in the end he was too tired and too sick to keep it up any longer, so with deep sorrow and broken hearts, the family of Stephen John Kusznier announces his passing on Thursday February 13th, at T.B.R.H.S.C. with his family at his side.
Born on March 31st, 1965 to John and Olga, Stephen came out feet first and hit the ground running. Living his entire life in Thunder Bay, except for the 2 years he lived with family in California, Stephen made countless friends who will all miss him deeply. Working various jobs growing up including the service battalion of the CAF, this led him to his career with Thunder Bay Transit which he loved doing up to his retirement in 2020. In retirement he then kept busy driving motor coach with Winning Streak Charters, and then School Bus Driver for the Lac Des Mille Lac School Board.
During his time in the army, he met Laureen and along with Shannon they soon became a family. Purchasing their first house in the hood (Current River), they welcomed their new baby girl, Stephanie, and soon grew out of that house into their current one. Stephen took pride in his well manicured lawn, always trying to achieve what his grandfather did with his. When not working, Stephen enjoyed many interests including curling, fishing, golfing and travelling with Laureen.
Stephen leaves behind his daughters Shannon Kay and Stephanie Kusznier, Mother Olga (Ollie), Brothers Mark and Barry, Sister-in-law Eileen Izzard along with their families. His Aunt Judy Stankus and special niece Leah Tait along with close friends and neighbours Rob and Joanne Jahn. So many other family, friends and co-workers will also miss him.
Predeceased on November 1st, 2024 by his beloved wife of 38 years, Laureen. His father Constable John S. Kusznier, Grandparents John and Stella Kusznier, and Max and Nellie Cham.
Our thanks goes out to the amazing doctors, nurses and ICU staff of T.B.R.H.S.C., who did all they could for Stephen in his last few days and hours. Thank you to Rev. Andriy Stetsyk and Michael Watral for their visit to ICU, and prayers.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart and Stroke at TBRHSC or charity of choice.
A Birthday Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday March 30th from 1-4 pm at the Slovak Legion, 801 Atlantic Ave.
