It is with great sadness that the family of Steve Meyer announce his passing on April 14, 2025, at St. Joseph’s Hospice, with his family by his side, following a lengthy battle with pancreatic cancer.
Steve was born on August 25, 1963, in Thunder Bay and spent his life here. He worked as a Structural Designer at WSP. In his spare time, Steve enjoyed volunteering, was the chair of the Thunder Bay Chapter of OACETT and was a scout leader with the 15th Fort William Scout Group for several years. Steve was very outgoing and loved to help people. He had a great sense of humour. His main hobby was aquascaping and he loved computer gaming! He enjoyed many camping trips with family and friends, but his greatest joy was his family.
Steve is survived by Kim, his wife of 34 years, son Henk, his mother Roely , and faithful dog Willie. He is also survived by his brothers Ken (Charlene) and John (Melissa), sisters Teda (Andy) and Janet (Al), sisters-in-law Bev, Debbie (Rod), Bonnie (Terry), Marianne and many nieces and nephews. He will be missed by many good friends.
Steve was predeceased by his father Henk Meyer, in-laws Barney and Betty Tackney, brothers-in-law Tom and Dennis Tackney , John Walgren, and sister-in-law Jane Tackney.
We wish to extend gratitude to Dr. Sellick and the nurses at the Thunder Bay Cancer Clinic. Thank you also to Dr. Bassuony and the nurses at St. Joseph’s Hospice. A special thank you to Steve’s home care nurse, Kathleen Moore, who went above and beyond and provided exceptional care for Steve so that he could remain at home as long as possible.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 24, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at the Columbus Centre.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Joseph’s Hospice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Simpler Times Cremation Centre, 575 Central Avenue, Thunder Bay.
