Suzan Labine

Posted

Mrs. Suzan Labine,58, passed away unexpectedly at home on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010.

Suzan met Gil Labine in September of 1973 and it was love at first sight for the both of them. After a month long courtship Gil proposed and they were married on July 27, 1974. Together they raised four children, and were extremely proud of the women and men that they have become.

Family was first and foremost in Suzan's life. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter and sister. It was during time spent with family, especially her grandchildren, that Suzan found the greatest joy.

She was a kind, caring and sensitive woman who gave much of herself for the good of others in the community. Suzan served as Chairperson of the Lakehead Public School Board for six years, on the Board of St. Joseph's Care Group, as chair of the Board of Westminster United Church and on the Board of Communities Together For Children.

Having a fondness for politics she was actively involved with political parties on both the Federal and Provincial levels. She had most recently been working with the United Way as the co-ordinator of the Leaders of the Way Campaign, a job that she carried out with great passion.

She will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her husband Gilbert, children: Stephanie (Kevin) Adams, Kelly Labine, Peter (Ann Marie) Labine and Jeffrey Labine; grandchildren: Xavier, Oscar and Grace Adams; her brother Michael (Cairen) Reilley, sisters: Rosemary (Rick Morrison) Whyte, Heather (David) Cornish, and Linda (Roli) Tipper as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

She was predeceased by her parents Ruth and Herschell Reilley and mother-in-law and father-in-law Lorrette and Emmett Labine.  Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 31, 2010 at 10 a.m. in St. Paul's United Church, Waverley Street, with Rev. Jan Sampson presiding.

The interment will follow in Mountain View Cemetery.  Visitation for friends will held on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Sargent Family Reception Centre. adjacent to the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers memorials to the United Way would be appreciated.  On-line condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
