It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected death of Suzanne Joy Sterling on October 28, 2024, in Thunder Bay, Ontario. Born on August 10, 1966, in Birtle, Manitoba. Suzanne’s death leaves a profound void in the lives of friends and loved ones.

Suzanne shared her life with her soulmate, Jeff Garofalo, and her beloved dog, Luke. Jeff and Luke were her constant companions—partners in life. Suzanne’s voice would soften with joy when she spoke of how “awesome” Jeff made her feel, and her blue eyes would sparkle as she shared stories about Luke. She had a deep love for Jeff and for black lab dogs.

Always ready to help, Suzanne had an intuitive way of knowing what others needed, often even before they asked. She loved learning, having completed a Bachelor of Recreation Studies, and Master's Degree in Organizational Change, followed by a Human Resource Management diploma. She was an expert in program planning, and organizational and volunteer management. Suzanne was both a student and an educator, always eager to share her knowledge to make a difference.

Beyond educational and community achievements she was honored with an Outstanding Academic Achievement - Human Resource Management Confederation College in 2021, an Exceptional Service Award Canadian Diabetes Association Ontario in 2000, and for saving a life with a Ken Barnes Memorial Award – Lifesaving by the Canadian Red Cross Society in 1989.

Though distance kept her far from family Suzanne maintained close ties with her family and numerous friends. She cherished her time spent visiting, reminiscing and sharing laughter. Her middle name, Joy, truly embodied her spirit, and she found great happiness in seeing others enjoy themselves. Although Suzanne was far from home, she had plans to move closer to her family, a wish Jeff and her family will now fulfill.

Suzanne was predeceased by her parents Raymond and Wilma (Stowe) Sterling and brothers Bob, Barry, and Ken Sterling. She is survived by spouse Jeff and beloved dog Luke, siblings Pat (Richard), Wayne (Faith), Glen (Coral) as well as nieces and nephews. In honoring her wishes to return to the Prairies a celebration of her life will take place at a later date.
