It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Terence Patrick (Terry) Sloan on March 23, 2012, surrounded by the love of his family in his home at McVicar Estates according to his wishes.

Born on Jan. 19, 1929 in Iroquois Falls, Ontario, he lived in northern Ontario communities all of his life.

As a long time employee of Abitibi Woodlands, he was transferred to Port Arthur with his family in 1967 where he continued his work in accounting in the office and in various camps throughout Northwestern Ontario.

After having worked at St. Joseph's Heritage, Terry became involved as a volunteer with seniors at St. Joseph's Heritage and Pioneer Ridge Auxiliary. Being a very social person, this type of work pleased him very well.

A long-time, devoted parishioner of St. Margaret's R.C. Church, Terry was also a 57 year member of the Knights of Columbus serving as a member of the Father Baxter Assembly of the Fourth Degree, and as a Past Grand Knight of the Leo Council 1130.

Terry was happiest surrounded by family. He took pride in his children and grandchildren and enjoyed sharing their interests. He was an avid fan and spectator at a variety of their sports and interests.

He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 57 years, Irene; children Robert (Salma), Jo-Anne (Bob Edgar), Louis (Fiona Blaikie); and Maureen (Gavin Shuell); grandchildren Michael, Mathew and Mark Sloan, Nicole Rose-Cooper (Shawn), Mark and Andrea Edgar, Samuel, Amy, Casey and Sophia Sloan, Nicholas Blaikie-Puk, and, Eric and Alexander Shuell, his brother Brian, as well by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives.

He is predeceased by his parents Patrick and Sarah, sisters Veronica, Patricia and loving twin sister Margaret as well as his brother John, and several brothers and sisters in-law.

The family wishes to gratefully acknowledge all the wonderful doctors, nurses and caregivers that have kindly cared for Terry during this journey.

Thank you especially to volunteers and homecare nurses from Bayshore: Ashley Flello for her wonderful palliative care and comfort to Dad, and her support to our family in these final weeks; to Donna Martin for her care and kindness; and to Hospice Northwest volunteer Bob Maxton for his friendship.

Special thanks also to Dr. Jeff Bradley for his concern and friendship, and to Dr. Kevin Miller and Dr. Kevin Ramchandar for their care.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Sunday March 25, 2012 from 7 to 9 p.m. in St. Margaret's RC Church, 88 Clayte Street, where the Vigil Service will begin at 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 26, 2012 when family and friends will gather in St. Margaret's R.C. Church for the Funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 a.m. celebrated by Rev. Ciaran Donnelly.

A private interment will follow. In lieu of flowers, as expressions of sympathy, memorials may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, or the Dew Drop Inn at St. Andrew's R.C. Church.

Arrangements are in care of the Sargent & Son Funeral Directors, 21 N. Court Street.

Online condolences may be made at www.sargentandson.com.
