Thelma Pauline Heinrich, a resident of Thunder Bay, passed away at Hogarth Riverview Manor on Sunday, November 12, 2023, at the age of 78.

Born in Regina, Saskatchewan, in 1945, Thelma moved with her family to Fort William in the early 1950s and later to Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. There, she completed her grade school and post-secondary education. She graduated from the Saskatoon City Hospital School of Nursing in 1967 and took additional courses at the University of Saskatchewan. Thelma began her nursing career in Thunder Bay in 1969, working for many years with the Thunder Bay District Health Unit. She retired as the Employee Health/Infection Control Nurse at the Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital.

In her retirement, Thelma enjoyed crafting, especially crocheting, and co-owned a consignment craft store, Crafter’s Corner, in Thunder Bay. She also had a deep appreciation for the outdoors, enjoying her garden.

Thelma will be remembered as a soft-spoken, gentle, and kind soul who cared deeply for others throughout her life, even as her own health declined.

Thelma is survived by two nieces, Cheryl Knowles and Catherine South, and two nephews, Carl and Christopher Heinrich, along with their children and grandchildren.  She was predeceased by her father Charles Heinrich, and mother Helen nee Bauch, brother Carl (Clara) Heinrich, and sister Eva (Paul) Santuci.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the staff and volunteers at Hogarth Riverview Manor for the care they provided to Thelma. Cremation has taken place and a Graveside Service for Thelma will be held at 11:00am on Friday, June 14, 2024, at the Mountainview Cemetery, with the chaplain at Hogarth Riverview Manor, Steve Robertson, officiating. Please gather at the cemetery office first, and we will proceed to the graveside together. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Joseph’s Foundation of Thunder Bay, Hogarth Riverview Manor.
