THOMAS DOW
October 27, 1934 – January 5, 2024

Mr. Thomas Dow has raced his last race and taken his last voyage at the age of 89 years. Dad passed away in the home he built, peacefully while watching the birds and deer, on Friday, January 5, 2024.

Thomas was born in Fort William on October 27, 1934 and was a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay. Dad was never afraid of hard work, first at his father’s garage, Dow’s Auto Electric, before starting his own business, Thomas Dow Electroplating. Following retirement, he never slowed down, always tinkering and puttering around his home and spending many hours in the garage fixing cars and trucks for family and friends.

In his younger years, Dad had many adventures like flying his Tiger Moth biplane to favourite fishing lakes, and driving his Bombardier snow bus on Lake Superior ice, even getting a truck out to Pie Island over the ice. Thomas was a founder of stock car racing at the Murillo and Lakehead Exhibition tracks. Dad spent his leisure time aboard the “Gonfishin” on Lake Superior, enjoying many hours at his favourite spots, right up until last fall. He lived a long and full life and will be deeply missed by all of us.

Thomas is survived by his two sons, Ken and Laurin (Jenn); his sister Jan as well as his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and other relatives.

He was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Barbara Dow.

In respect of Dad’s wishes, there will be no service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the WESTFORT CHAPEL, 420 West Gore Street at James.

Should friends so desire, donations made in memory of Thomas to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
