Tom Parker

It is with tremendous grief and sadness that we announce the passing of Tom Parker after a lengthy illness.

He was born and raised in Port Arthur. After he graduated from Hillcrest High School, Tom went to work at Abitibi Papers as an Instrument Mechanic, where he continued to work until he retired when the mill closed. He also was very active in his union, often taking on the leadership role to advocate for his colleagues.

Tom was very social and did many things in the community. He was involved in various sports throughout the years including karate, baseball, curling, and five pin bowling. As a young man, Tom loved to travel the countryside on his motorcycle. He made many lifelong friendships which continue to this day. He was always willing to lend a hand and would go out of his way for anyone in need.

Tom was a dedicated family man. After he met Fran and her daughter Jennifer, the couple went on to have 2 more children.

Tom loved his 3 girls and was often found coaching their teams or cheering them on. He also loved to take them for coffee or on fishing trips and did his best to support all of their endeavours.

As a retiree, Tom spent many hours out on Shebandowan Lake, fishing to his heart's content. He also gave of his time to the Humane Society, where he helped to train dogs to be ready for adoption.

Late in his life, Tom became a grandfather and could not have been more delighted with his 3 grandchildren whom he loved to visit. Tom is lovingly remembered by his wife Fran, daughters Jennifer (Gerry), Stephanie, Brittany (John) and grandchildren Edward, Alexandria and Heidi. He is also remembered by his sisters Linda (Don) and Sharon (Paul), and brothers Joseph (Janet), and Kenneth, and many nieces, nephews and other relatives. Tom was predeceased by his parents and his two older brothers. 

A service to celebrate the life of Tom Parker will be held on Friday, August 5, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Rev. Harold Hunt presiding. 

In lieu of flowers, donations to Parkinson Foundation of Canada, The Canadian Cancer Society or the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society would be appreciated.
