Vilem Calek

Mr. Vilem Calek, age 77 years, passed away unexpectedly at his residence on Wednesday, March 7, 2018.

Vilem was born in Hrobe, Czechoslovakia on June 8, 1940. While living there he met Marie Ronnerova whom he married on November 25, 1961 and together they raised two daughters. He, along with his family came to Canada in 1969, first settling in Kitchener before making Thunder Bay their home in 1975. A Professional Electrical Power Engineer by trade he worked at Great Lakes Forest Products, retiring in the late 90’s.

Vilem loved nature and very much enjoyed taking long walks with his beloved dogs. He enjoyed watching tennis and hockey and was an avid chess player. His greatest love was for his family.

He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife Marie, daughters Marie (Jeff) Lafontaine and Dana Calek, grandchildren, Jessica (LeCory) Ruffin, Lisa (David Allen) Palo and Dylan, Jordan and Tyana Lafontaine, great granddaughter Kiara Ruffin as well as by 2 sisters in the Czech Republic.

A service to celebrate the life of Vilem Calek will be held on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street, with Rev. Jerin Louis of Holy Family R.C. Church presiding. As expressions of sympathy memorials to the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation would be appreciated.
