Viljo Oscar “Bill” Ranta, age 86 years, a resident of Roseview Manor, Thunder Bay, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 with family by his side.
Bill was a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay. He worked for Provincial Paper Mill until his retirement. He was an avid sports fan throughout his life, delighting in many road trips to enjoy baseball, curling, football and hockey. His greatest joy in life was being able to spend time with his grandsons and family.
Bill will be lovingly remembered by his children: Gary Ranta, Lori (Tony) Rodrigues, Carrie (Marcel) Abela, Kelly (Tom) Gerow; grandchildren: Kari and Lucas Rodrigues and T.J. (Chelsea) Gerow. Bill also had a very close relationship with his sister-in-law Susan Greaves and nieces Jennifer and Christine. He was predeceased by his wife Martha; parents Oscar and Amanda; and brother Reino “Ray”.
As per Bill’s request, there will be no formal service. In lieu of flowers, should friends so desire, donations in Bill’s memory to the Thunder Bay and District Humane Society would be appreciated.
