On Saturday, November 4, 2023, Walt passed away peacefully after a brief illness. Walt was born March 20, 1938 and lived his entire life in Thunder Bay. He was a graduate of FWCI, McMaster University and University of Ottawa and taught for the Lakehead District School Board for 35 years as a teacher, counsellor and Vice Principal. He was a proud member of the Metro Lions Club and Elks Lodge.

Through the years, Walt enjoyed playing basketball, football and curling. He loved spending winters with Lydia in Mesa, Arizona and summers at Pike Lake with his children and grandchildren. He was a proud advocate of his grandchildren in all their academic, athletic and artistic pursuits!

Walt is survived by his daughters Trish (Jim Glena) and Lisa (John Winslow) and son Bob (Andrea MacInnis); grandchildren Brett (Erin Hansen) and Tori Glena and Alexandra and Ian Winslow. Also survived by niece Suzanne (Andy Ritchie) and nephew Dave (Kim) Kwasny and their children and grandchildren.

Walt was predeceased by his wife Lydia, parents Paul and Pearl Kwasnycia, brother and sister-in-law Larry and Louise Kwasny and in-laws Stephanie and Anton Muzyka.

The family wishes to thank the highly-skilled and dedicated doctors who cared for Walt in his final months – Dr. Shahrour, Dr. Abugharib, Dr. Del Paggio, Dr. Watson, Dr. Biggs and Dr. Sellick and the wonderful staff of the TBRHSC Emergency Department and 3C, and St. Joseph’s 5N.

In accordance with his wishes, Walt has been cremated and a private family service will be held.

Should friends desire, donations to the Northern Cancer Fund or TBRHSC Our Hearts at Home Cardiovascular campaign would be gratefully appreciated.
