Mr. Walter Slipperjack, age 70 years, passed away peacefully at his residence on Tuesday, October 20, 2015.

Walter was born in Fort Hope on May 18, 1945, the son of Albert and Daisy Slipperjack. He was a kind, generous and forgiving man who was always willing to help family and friends when needed.

When meeting Walter you could always count on being greeted by his big smile and a hand shake.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, setting nets and just being home on the land at Whitewater Lake.

Walter’s greatest love was for his family, especially his children and grandchildren and he was happiest spending time with them sharing his many adventurous stories and teaching his many hands on skills to the ones he loved.  He was given the traditional name “Shawonon-a-ne-ne” which means “coming from the south”.

Walter was always first class with everyone that he met.  He will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his 5 children: Sharon (Ron), Sandi, Colleen (Charlie), Walter (Doreen) and Fiona; 11 grandchildren: Jon, Eric, Julia, Aaron, Chenoa, Morgan, Sara, Katrina, Bonawbae, Elliot and Vincent; 5 great grandchildren: Hazel, Mikayla, Tallen, Zane and Creedance; 5 sisters: Nancy (Mark), Lena, Arlene, Ruby (Pat) and Shirley as well as by numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives from Eabametoong and Thunder Bay.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, October 23, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. in the Sargent & Son Funeral Chapel, 21 N. Court Street.  The interment will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.  Visitation for friends will be held on Thursday (this evening) from 6-7:30 p.m. in the Sargent & Son Chapel.  As expressions of sympathy memorials to the TBRHS Foundation-Northern Cancer Fund would be appreciated.
