It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Wayne Magill on September 23, 2014 at the age of 61.
Wayne was born on February 27, 1953 in Sioux Lookout, Ontario to Albert and Lillian Magill.
He attended Jumbo Gardens Public School, Hammarskjold High School, Lakehead University and Teachers College at Western University. He had a long distinguished teaching career with the Fort McMurray Public School District and Lakehead District School Board. Wayne had an unconditional caring and concern for colleagues and students.
After retiring six years ago, Coach Magill took off his coaching hat and picked up a fishing rod. He became a “general contractor” renovating his home at Amethyst Harbour.
Wayne and Laurie valued spending time together, their walks with Miley, visiting with friends or most recently their trip to California. Wayne was a sports enthusiast.
He loved hockey, whether it was playing it himself, watching one of his son’s hockey games or betting against the Leafs. Recently, he enjoyed his trips to visit Shauna in Calgary. On these trips, he got to show off his skills on the hills and with the “hammer”.
Wayne’s true passion was his family and friends. His time spent on Aster Place and Amethyst Harbour created lasting memories. He was always willing to lend a helping hand when necessary, and discuss neighbourhood issues.
He was always generous with his spare time. Wayne coached many high school sports, specifically basketball for over twenty years. He was a volunteer at the Sibley Loppett, as well as numerous community organizations. He was proud to make a difference in so many peoples’ lives, and enjoyed every opportunity to do so.
Wayne will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by his wife Laurie (NEE Gatherum) and three children Murray, Shauna and Ryan, His brothers and sister – Vaughn (Barb), Barry (Anne), Keith (Kathie), Glenn (Joann), Aldene (Ray), father-in-law and mother-in-law Dave Sr. and Anne Gatherum, sister-in-law Donna (John) Rich, brother-in-law Dave (Deborah) Gatherum as well as by numerous extended family and dear friends. He was predeceased by his parents, Lillian and Albert Magill.
Friends are invited to join Wayne’s family in celebrating his life in the Ballroom of the Valhalla Inn on Tuesday, September 30, 2014 from 2-5 p.m. where Words of Tribute will be offered at 3 p.m.
As expressions of sympathy donations can be made in his memory to P.R.O. Kids or a charity of your choice.
