We are saddened to announce the passing of Wendy Dolan, who died after a valiant struggle with cancer at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Thunder Bay, ON.

Born in Kimberley, BC, Wendy is predeceased by her parents Francis James Hastie and Mildred Kathleen Buzan. 

She is survived by her brother Jim Hastie, sister Michele Hastie, son Liam Dolan, son Kieran Dolan (Stephanie Pocock), grandchildren Piers, Malcom, and Sian Dolan.  She is also survived by nephew Tom Hastie, nieces Michele Hastie and Joanne Hastie, her former husband Rob Dolan, and by her loving extended community of friends.

Wendy grew up in Toronto and attended the National Ballet School of Canada in Toronto as a teenager. Wendy was married and divorced in the 1960’s, and in 1970 married Robert Dolan.  

Wendy received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from University College, University of Toronto and she received her Master’s from OISE in Toronto. She worked in the mental health field at the Donwood Institute in Toronto, and at Sister Margaret Smith Centre in Thunder Bay.  Wendy finished her career by pursing a lifelong dream to live and work in the Arctic in field of health care management.

Wendy retired, with her pack of sled dogs, to the community of South Gillies where she remained active in community groups (Mile Hill Melodrama), and in community events.

A Memorial Service to celebrate Wendy’s life will be held at 1:30 PM on February 27, 2016 at the Gillies Community Centre, Hwy 595, South Gillies, ON.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Foundation - Northern Cancer Fund, or to the Gillies Community Centre.
