Border Cats duo named Northwoods League all-stars

Jackson Cooke and Max Ramirez IV have been selected to play in the league’s all-star game on July 23 in Mankato, Minn.

THUNDER BAY – Two members of the Thunder Bay Border Cats will get to showcase their skills with the rest of the top players in the Northwoods League.

Catcher/designated hitter Jackson Cooke and pitcher Max Ramirez IV have both been selected to represent the squad on the Great Plains team for this year’s all-star game, which takes place on July 23 in Mankato, Minn.

Cooke, who calls Edina, Minn. home, is batting .288 with five home runs and 24 runs batted in through 20 contests.

The son of former NHL player Matt Cooke plays for the University of Tennessee-Martin Skyhawks.

Ramirez IV, who also pitches for the Niagara University Purple Eagles, has a perfect 5-0 record with one save.

The Los Banos, Calif., product hasn’t allowed an earned run in eight appearances for the Border Cats heading into a doubleheader against the La Crosse Loggers at Port Arthur Stadium on Saturday.

This year’s all-star squads were chosen through a vote by the 26 teams of the Northwoods League, with ballots being filled out by each squad’s field staff and media contacts.
