CALGARY – Carter George is one step closer to representing his country on junior hockey’s biggest stage.
The 18-year-old netminder from Thunder Bay was one of 32 players named to Canada’s world junior selection camp on Monday.
The camp runs from Dec. 10-13 in Ottawa, where this year’s tournament will be held starting on Boxing Day.
George is one of four goaltenders competing for a spot on the team.
He’ll be joined at the camp by Carson Bjarnason of the Western Hockey League’s Brandon Wheat Kings, Jack Ivankovic of the Ontario Hockey League’s Brampton Steelheads and Scott Ratzlaff of the WHL’s Seattle Thunderbirds.
The Los Angeles Kings prospect is in his second season with the OHL’s Owen Sound Attack.
He’s compiled a 4-11-5 record with a 3.54 goals against average and a .901 save percentage.
George also became the 11th goaltender to score a goal in an OHL game on Nov. 14 in a 4-1 win over the Peterborough Petes.
If he makes Canada’s squad, George would be the first player from Thunder Bay to do so since fellow netminder Mackenzie Blackwood in 2015.
He’s previously won a gold medal for his country at the 2023 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and the 2024 World Under-18 Hockey Championship.
