Jamie Kompon bringing Stanley Cup to Thunder Bay

The Florida Panthers assistant coach will bring hockey's biggest prize to Port Arthur Stadium on Sept. 11.

THUNDER BAY — Hockey's holy grail is coming to Thunder Bay.

Florida Panthers assistant coach Jamie Kompon is bringing the Stanley Cup to Port Arthur Stadium on Sept. 11 for a free public event where fans can take photos with the trophy.

“It is such an honour to share this event with people in Thunder Bay, a community that had such an influence on me growing up,” Kompon said in a prepared statement.

The event will run from 3 to 5 p.m. and will relocate to the Thunder Bay Community Auditorium if it's raining.

The doors will open at 2:30 p.m. and donations will be accepted for the Northern Cancer Fund.

The 57-year-old lifted the trophy for the third time on June 24 when the Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers.

He had previously been a part of championship-winning sides as an assistant coach with the Los Angeles Kings in 2012 and the Chicago Blackhawks in 2013.
