Robert Lorkowski created the Liliana Ciddio Memorial Bursary this year in memory of his late wife who passed away in October 2024.
Liliana was an extraordinary multi-medium artist. Her artworks had meaning, told stories, and were a view into the mind of a complex, brilliant and caring human being. Her works included all styles of oil and watercolour paintings, sculptures, plaster, collages, sketches, prints, dioramas, embroidery and multimedium installations.
Her last position was at Westgate CVI where she headed the culinary program. Over those few years she more than doubled the enrollment due to her engaging nature, caring and teaching skills.
“Liliana had the ability to bond with her students and embrace friendships with her peers and coworkers. She saw the inherent good in everyone she met or knew. This bursary is a testament to her kind and loving nature. She will be missed,” Lorkowski said.
Each year, the Thunder Bay Community Foundation helps numerous students achieve their post-secondary studies through their annual Scholarship and Bursary Program.
Whether they're going into an Engineering Program or an Arts Program, there are many scholarships and bursaries to be given out to Thunder Bay and District graduating high school students.
This year, the Thunder Bay Community Foundation is giving out over $170,000 in student awards.
The Thunder Bay Community Foundation is thrilled to announce that they will be giving out four new student awards this year. These include:
- Chrusz/Savitsky Bursary
- Ken Moffatt Family Bursary
- Liliana Ciddio Memorial Bursary
- Northwestern Ontario Writers Workshop/MacDonald Scholarship
Without the support of their generous donors, the Thunder Bay Community Foundation could not do what it does. The Thunder Bay Community Foundation is passionate about our community, and that's why for over 50 years, they have created a variety of flexible ways to give.
They make it easy to realize your philanthropic ambitions and support our community’s well-being, now and for the future. The purpose of the Thunder Bay Community Foundation is to inspire, promote and facilitate philanthropy to support the ever-changing needs of the District of Thunder Bay.

"This award will help ease the financial burden for students pursuing their studies and serve as a lasting tribute to Liliana's legacy. We are proud to play a role in empowering the next generation of scholars and leaders in Thunder Bay. On behalf of the Thunder Bay Community Foundation, we thank all of our donors who give scholarships and bursaries to students in our community.”
