What does legacy mean to you?

What comes to mind when you think of your legacy?

For Bonnie Moore and her husband, Jay Eingold, their answer was simple: giving to our community and supporting our youth. They believe that there is no greater gift than giving.

Moore served on the Board of Trustees and was the Executive Director at the Thunder Bay Community Foundation for several years.

During this time, she met many individuals who were leaving legacies in their wills, and she was inspired to do the same. She gained firsthand experience in seeing how donors' contributions impacted the community.

“The Thunder Bay Community Foundation is extremely important for our charities," Moore said.

"One year, we had an anonymous donor pay the mortgage for a local charity, and it was such an honour to help facilitate that. I aspire to be like that donor."

Through her philanthropic work, Moore has become acutely aware of the need to support youth, who she believes are the foundation of our community.

That’s why the Bonnie Moore and Jay Eingold Fund at the Thunder Bay Community Foundation will directly support youth in perpetuity.

“It makes us feel grateful that we will have a part in helping our community grow — forever,” Moore added.

Moore and Eingold also provide an annual bursary from their fund to support a graduating member of the Boys & Girls Club of Thunder Bay.

Having served on the Board of Trustees, Moore believes that the Boys & Girls Club is the premier youth-support organization in Thunder Bay, and that the youth truly benefit from the programs the organization offers.

“I have seen, through our contribution of bursaries, that the youth who have received them greatly appreciate the support," Moore said.

"The award has made a huge difference in helping them continue their studies. By supporting the Thunder Bay Community Foundation, individuals and families can help change our community for today and tomorrow."

November is Make a Will Month. Starting a conversation about creating a will may seem overwhelming, but it’s not as difficult as it seems.

When it comes to our community, including a charitable bequest in your will is a simple way to make a lasting gift. Such gifts are impactful, flexible, and powerful.

When you create a bequest in your will that includes the Thunder Bay Community Foundation, a fund is created in your name.

That donation is professionally invested and directed to the causes or organizations of your choosing.

“Legacy giving is a way to create a lasting impact for your community in perpetuity," said Athena Kreiner, CEO of the Thunder Bay Community Foundation.

"It’s an opportunity to give back and help build our community. Your gift will have a positive impact on your family, friends, and the community when you are no longer here. You can either set aside a fixed amount or a percentage of your estate, and because it’s tax-deductible, it can alleviate the tax burden on your estate.

“On behalf of the Thunder Bay Community Foundation, I would like to thank Bonnie and Jay for choosing our Foundation to create their legacy. Their passion for helping people in our community and the impact of their generosity will continue forever.”
