Move with Mama gets moms and babies active

Move with Mama will be held on Wednesday's at 2 p.m. at the Matawa Health Co-Operative

THUNDER BAY — As a mother of a young baby it can be difficult to stay active, so Matawa Health Co-Operative is aiming to make it easier.

Matawa Health Co-Operative will be running a mom and baby fitness class, every Wednesday at 2 p.m.

“It's called Move with Mama, and basically, it's to help mamas get active while bonding with their babies and connecting with other moms,” said Chevon Turpin, instructor of the class.

The first class was held on Tuesday, and was a big success.

“We had an excellent turnout; it was a lot of fun. The babies had a really good time as well, and we broke up a sweat, it was great,” Turpin said.

For anyone wishing to attend, they should “expect to come have some movement, not just solely focused on fitness but also bonding with their kids and making connections with other moms too.”

The class lasts one hour and it includes a warm up, cardio, strength training and cool down static stretches.

“Any mom and baby are welcome. This one was for one year and younger, we are going to be doing a three-year-old and younger just so that we can include more kids, have them learn the healthy lifestyle,” Turpin said.

She said the moms really enjoyed the class, working up a sweat and the babies were all smiling.

“I think if you're just looking to have a good time and get out a little bit more with your baby, socialize, get healthy, then this is a perfect class for you,” Turpin said.
