As soon as I heard about this, I immediately knew who I felt deserved this honour.
Especially during the holiday season, the big man Santa himself deserves some praise for his hard work as well as Mrs. Claus.
Blair Powers dresses as Santa each year and donates his time to bring joy to children with his visits to Kingsway Park school as well as anywhere else he's needed. His wife Lynn works at the school and dresses as Mrs. Claus.
Together they have become an inspiring power couple for me, and I can tell many others feel the same way.
It doesn't have to be Christmas either for both Blair and Lynn to go above and beyond for others within their community. They have a way to them that draws people in and makes whatever space they are present in feel like home.
When Lynn's grandchildren started school she was no longer just their "Meemoo" but the entire class's Meemoo. And for some children that may have lost their grandparents, having her care and appreciation is so beneficial.
Even as an adult my grandparents meant everything to me so when they passed it was difficult. My grandmother was so similar to Lynn that I feel like I have a nostalgic feeling from the relationship I have with Lynn that makes me smile and feel happy to see there is others in this world with care and unconditional love like my grandmother gave me and it's helped my healing from the grief of that loss.
Blair and Lynn are kind and giving all year around, as I mentioned, and I feel seeing that in this day and age at times is rare. They are the people that if you ran into them as complete strangers they easily change a bad day into a good one. They deserve the excitement of this reward to give them the holiday joy and surprise that they have given daily to others for years.
