THUNDER BAY – Travellers will have to abide by strict COVID-19 measures at the Canadian border for at least another month.
The Public Health Agency of Canada on Tuesday announced the government is extending border measures for travellers entering the country until at least June 30, meaning visitors and returnees will have to upload required information, including vaccination status, through the ArriveCan app through the end of next month.Travellers considered to be fully vaccinated can freely enter Canada. Canadian citizens and permanent residents who are not fully vaccinated can still return home, but must present a negative, valid pre-entry molecular test taken no more than 72 hours before arriving at the border or a lab-administered rapid antigen test administered no more than 24 hours before arriving at the border.
Those not considered fully vaccinated must take a test upon arrival, a Day 8 test and quarantine for 14 days with proof of a quarantine plan.
Children under five years of age do not need to present a negative test, but all children five and older who are not fully vaccinated must do so or face quarantine.
Foreign nationals who don’t qualify as fully vaccinated will be denied entry under most circumstances.
Those who are not fully vaccinated are still not permitted to board commercial airplanes or trains.
