COVID 2022 2

THUNDER BAY – Both the number of confirmed cases of COVID-19, along with the number of hospitalizations has shot up since Monday.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit announced 123 new confirmed cases of the virus, the most since the same number was reported on March 7.

Case counts are not considered to be accurate and are believed to be vastly under-representing the true figure because of the lack of access for most to PCR testing.

There are also 14 more people in hospital in the district than there were two days ago, the number climbing from 17 to 31. There are five people in an intensive care unit with COVID-19, two fewer than on Monday.

There are now 198 active, confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the district, the most since there were 211 on March 4.

There have been 10,234 confirmed cases since the pandemic began, with 5,970 of those cases being diagnosed in 2022.

There have been 85 deaths associated with the virus, the latest being reported on April 8.
