THUNDER BAY – Only four staff members at Thunder Bay Regional Health Science Centre have been suspended without pay for not adhering to the hospital’s mandated COVID-19 vaccination or antigen testing policy.

The vaccines are required for hospital employees under the province’s Directive 6.

The numbers are in stark contrast to a pair of Windsor hospitals, which according to a CBC report published on Wednesday, had suspended a total of 172 employees for not getting their shots.

"These requirements say those vaccinated must provide proof of both doses; those with a medical exemption must supply the exemption; and those not vaccinated or choosing to not share their vaccination status must complete an education program,” a hospital spokesperson said in a statement issued on Thursday.

“Everyone not fully vaccinated or refusing to declare their status must comply with the COVID-19 antigen testing requirements. These suspensions have not impacted our ability to provide patient care. We continue to strongly encourage everyone, staff and public, to get both vaccinations if possible.”
