Nearly three-quarters of eligible Thunder Bay population double vaccinated

Another 2,532 shots were administered by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and other partners last week.

THUNDER BAY – Nearly three-quarters of all those eligible in the District of Thunder Bay have been double vaccinated.

According to figures released on Tuesday by the Thunder Bay District Health Unit, 73.6 per cent of the population 12 and older have had both shots, a total of 103,857 residents.

These same numbers show 81.7 per cent of those living in the district have had a least one shot of an approved vaccine.

According to the province, which tabulates its numbers differently, 87.6 per cent of those living in the district have had at least one dose and 81.6 per cent are fully vaccinated.

The health unit last week gave out 2,532 shots, 734 of which were first doses, a slight drop from the 744 given out the week ending Aug. 21.

Of the eight age categories broken out by the health unit, five have topped the 80 per cent mark for first doses and all have climbed over the 70 per cent mark. The 30- to 39-year-old category continues to trail the pack, sitting at just 71.1 per cent. The 40- to 49-year-old group is the second most hesitant, with 75.6 per cent vaccinated, now trailing the 12- to 17-year-old group, which sits at 77.8 per cent after Aug. 28.
