The Thunder Bay Border Cats couldn’t hold onto their lead as the Mankato Moon Dogs ran away with a 7-5 win at Port Arthur Stadium Tuesday night.

The Cats had a 4-3 lead in their grasp for half an inning before giving up three unearned runs in the top of the seventh that they couldn’t get back.

Down 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Alex Gutherie, Ino Patron and Evan Wiebel hit back-to-back-to-back singles. The Cats’ top hitter Cullen Mahoney, who went 2-for-5 on the night, would eventually bring in Patron after Kyle Mossbarger picked up his first RBI of the season to score Gutherie.

But the Dogs came back in the top of the seventh and scored three unearned runs after an error by Cats’ catcher Evan Weibel prolonged the inning. The Moon Dogs scored another in the eighth to make it 7-4.

Mahoney scored in the ninth after a swing from designated hitter Casey Selsor, who went 3-for-5, but it wasn’t enough as Kevin Taylor struck out and Gutherie popped-out to right field to end the game.

The Moon Dogs’ Scotty Walker picked up the win, pitching one inning, walking one and giving up two hits.

Brad Delatte took the loss. In one inning pitched, he gave up two runs, struck out one and walked one.

Attendance was 541.

The Cats and Dogs meet again Wednesday at Port Arthur Stadium.

Game time is 7:05 p.m.
