THUNDER BAY – Extra innings weren’t kind to the Thunder Bay Border Cats on Wednesday night.
After scoring three runs in the ninth inning to send the game to extra frames, the Cats gave up three more on two hits, two walks and an error In the 10th and dropped a second straight decision to the visiting Eau Claire Express, falling 9-7.
It was the seventh loss in eight second-half games for Thunder Bay, who slipped to 15-28 overall.
The host Border Cats trailed 6-3 heading into the ninth, but Anthony Galati had an RBI ground out with the bases loaded and Ryne Edmondson knocked in two more with a single to tie the game off Express reliever Brannon Jordan to tie the game.
After Austin Kern gave up three in the 10th the Cats did bring the winning run to the plate in the bottom half of the inning, but Nate Soriano struck out to end the threat.
Jake Engel had two hits and two RBI for Thunder Bay.
Edmondson now has 24 RBI for the Border Cats.
Thunder Bay starter Ryan Windham went four innings, giving up three runs on six hits. Reliever Jordan Jackson was hit hard in two innings of work, surrendering three runs on four hits and four walks.
Tanner Kohlhepp got the nod for Eau Claire and lasted seven innings, giving u three runs on seven thits while striking out three.
Brannon Jordan earned the win, Nick Herold the save for Eau Claire.
Thunder Bay hosts Duluth on Thursday night at Port Arthur Stadium. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
