Lakehead's wrestling team travels to Sudbury this weekend to compete at the OUA Wrestling Championships, hosted by Laurentian University. Roster follows below.
The women's team is currently ranked 8th in the CIS, while the men's team is as of yet into the CIS Top 10, but will have the chance to prove themselves this weekend against the best in the OUA.
Interim head coach Francis Clayton and his assistant Dustin Helwig are very excited to see how the team will wrestle this weekend.
"As a requirement of the OUA championships, each school is only allowed one athlete per weight class," says Helwig. "This really evens out the playing field and creates a different dynamic across many of the weight classes. It's no longer a tournament about numbers of wrestlers in a division, now it's more about skill. We hope to get as many athletes qualify for the CIS Championships, which occurs as a result of placing top 3 in their respective weight class."
