Mignault leads Stars to fifth straight triumph

DRYDEN - Ryan Mignault scored twice and added an assist on Friday night to lead the Thunder Bay North Stars to a fifth straight win.

The North Stars captain potted his 29th and 30th goals of 2018-19, giving him 30 goals in 30 games, as Thunder Bay scored twice in the second and twice in the third in dispatching the host Dryden Ice Dogs 4-1.

Michael Stubbs and Brandon Gillis also scored for the Stars. Gillis had a pair of assists, while Stubbs extended his goal-scoring streak to four games.

Ryan Brandt had the lone goal for the recently hot Ice Dogs (16-13-4), winners of seven of their past 10 games.

The first-place North Stars improved to 26-2-2 and opened a five-point lead over Red Lake.

In Fort Frances, the Lakers rode a Nick Hahkala hat trick to an 8-1 win over the last-place Minnesota Iron Rangers.
