Shewchuk, Barr added to Staal Foundation Open field

Local players get final tee-off slots on Thursday; De Grazia and Barr to play with former NHLer Grant Fuhr.

THUNDER BAY – Evan DeGrazia, Chris Gardner and Walter Keating Jr. will have some local company when they tee off Thursday at the Staal Foundation Open.

Tournament organizers on Tuesday announced Dustin Barr and Brett Shewchuk have been added to the field, both golfers offered sponsor’s exemptions into the Mackenzie Tour-PGA Tour Canada event being contested this week at Whitewater Golf Club.

Shewchuk is the two-time defending Strathcona Invitational champion, while Barr, a youth cancer survivor, finished second at a June qualifying event behind DeGrazia, who will make his fourth Staal Foundation Open start.

De Grazia and Barr will tee off with NHL hall-of-famer Grant Fuhr in the 2 p.m. slot on Thursday, starting on hole No. 1.

Keating Jr., Gardner and Shewchuk will also go at 2 p.m., starting on No. 10.

In Round 2, both groups will tee of at 9 a.m., on the opposite starting hole.
