NORTH BAY — The Hammarskjold Vikings senior girls' basketball team are provincial champions.

The Vikings captured the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) 'AA' title on Saturday night in North Bay with a 59-33 victory over the E.L. Crossley Cyclones of Pelham.

After taking a 14-12 lead in the first quarter, the Vikings dominated the next two stanzas as they outscored their opponents by a 34-8 deficit.

The Vikings, who won their second city crown in three years over the St. Ignatius Falcons on Nov. 11, qualified for the all-Ontario's by beating the Fort Frances Muskies in the NWOSSAA final last weekend.

Having entered OFSAA as the fifth overall seed, the Vikings dominated their opponents early on in North Bay.

Following a 78-26 rout of the King City Lions, they beat the St. Mother Teresa Catholic Academy Titans of Toronto by a score of 80-39 and cruised past the Elsie MacGill Hurricanes of Milton in a 73-17 affair.

The Vikings' toughest test was in the semifinal as they beat the E.S.P. Louis-Riel Rebelles of Ottawa in a 63-50 affair.
