Special Olympics Thunder Bay recently turned in a gold medal performance at a Provincial Softball Qualifier held in Oshawa at the Lakefront West Park.

Teams that attended were from Durham (three teams), Etobicoke, Toronto (three teams), York, and Thunder Bay.

The Thunder Bay Wildcats went undefeated throughout the day, playing Etobicoke Eagles for the Division C Championship game.

The Wildcats won 21-20, defeating the Etobicoke Eagles by coming back from a six-run deficit to win in walk off fashion at the bottom of the seventh inning, with Shawn Whitehurst driving in Roberta Hannusch from third base for the win.

The winning pitcher was Kyler LeCompte. Great plays on the offence and defence by all!

Chris Racco was the star of game one against Toronto C, when he drove in two runs on a single and put the Wildcats up by 10 runs to stop the game on the 10-run rule!

Kyle LeCompte and Stephen Sidorski shared pitching duties throughout the tournament.

Results of the tournament will be evaluated by Special Olympics Ontario as to the next steps towards Provincial Competition in 2025.
