THUNDER BAY – Local resident Joshua Donald Hewitt has made it his mission to help build a “better more inclusive and sustainable Thunder Bay.”
Last year, Hewitt founded an alliance called StandUp4CleanUp to help create change in Thunder Bay.
Hewitt wanted to use StandUp4CleanUp to help promote educational experiences around human impact on the environment, to empower citizens to succeed through involvement, to clean up natural spaces including waterways, parks and streets and to make the most impact by bringing the community together.
He frequently hosts community clean-up events, which include cleaning up parks, abandoned yards and houses, rivers and creeks.
Hewitt has partnered with 16 local organization to remove 527 bags of trash and now he plans to launch his own urban outreach program this winter.
For Hewitt, StandUp4CleanUp is an important part of his life and he will continue to bring people together to help clean Thunder Bay’s green spaces and waterways.
