SWIFT CURRENT, Sask. – After a fast start at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship, things have gone south for Trevor Bonot’s foursome.

Bonot, lead Amanda Gates, second Mike McCarville and third Jackie McCormick dropped a 9-8 heartbreaker to Quebec’s Pierre-Luc Morissette on Tuesday night and slipped to 1-3 at the event, being contested this week in Swift Current, Sask.

Team Northern Ontario led 3-1 after two ends, and 6-3 after four, but couldn’t hold on. Morissette trailed 7-5 after six ends, but scored three in the seventh to take the lead for the second time in the match.

Bonot tied it up with hammer in the eighth, but Morissette scored one in the 10th to eke out the win.

Earlier in the day the Northern Ontario foursome fell 8-5 to Scott McDonald’s Ontario rink.

Bonot’s squad plays Nova Scotia’s Paul Flemming, a team that includes six-time Scotties Tournament of Hearts champion Colleen Jones. They sit at 4-1 with one game to go in round-robin play. Northern Ontario wraps up against Saskatchewan in the evening draw.
