Willan paces Stars to 12th straight win

THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. – Make it a dozen in a row for the streaking Thunder Bay North Stars.

Joel Willan scored once and added three assists and Michael Stubbs connected for the 13th time in 11 games to lead the North Stars to a 6-2 road win on Saturday night over the Thief River Falls Norskies.

Jacob Brown, Kyle Auger, Josh Bryant and Jacob Anttonen also tallied for Thunder Bay, the No. 2 ranked team in the Canadian Junior Hockey League, who improved to 33-2-2 on the season.

With the win the Stars maintained a 12-point lead over second place Red Lake, who downed Fort Frances 5-2 on Saturday night.

Auger added a helper to his total, giving him 19 goals and 69 points, just six behind Miners forward Bryce Young for the league lead.

The Norskies, sitting in third in the Superior International Junior Hockey League standings, fell to 23-14-4, four points out of second.

 The North Stars host Dryden next on Friday night.
