The Da Vinci Centre Sports Bar has doubled down with two Novemburgers on the menu this month.
The first is their Fig Jam and Blue Cheese Burger.
You get exactly what you'd expect with this one. It's figgy, blue-cheesy and scumptious.
The ciabatta bun and 6oz beef patty are a substantial base. The generous smear of fig jam gives the burger a refined sweetness. The blue cheese crumble and blue cheese mayo work together to ensure the funky blue cheese flavour is present in every bite, with extra pops of intensity here and there.
Swiss cheese adds that melty texture that really makes a cheese burger and the bacon adds that salty-fatty goodness that always makes bacon great (although it could have been crisper.)
On the whole this burger is great. Staff said it has been so popular it's going on the regular menu.
The second Novemburger is The Parallel.
This is your classic bacon cheeseburger. One can imagine it's being offered for the sake of the blue cheese haters out there (although the Fig Jam and Blue Cheese Burger is good enough that it might make some converts.)
The same base of a 6oz patty on a ciabatta bun is topped with bacon, cheddar cheese, shredded lettuce, tomato and pickle. It's a solid cheeseburger, if a little dry. Some condiments would be welcome, but this one should make the picky-eaters out there happy.
Each burger comes with a choice of fries or garden salad and Sleeping Giant Brewing Company's made special this month Novembrewger root beer.
Burger, side and drink come to $18.99 before tax. $2 from the purchase of each burger, plus another 25 cents for the root beer, goes to the local United Way.
The Da Vinci Centre Sports Bar is located at 340 Waterloo St S.
