Beaux Daddy's Novemburger creation, the Daddy’s Burger, mixes a hint of Indian flavour into an otherwise very classic burger.
The burger comes to the table on a sizzling hot plate, perched on a bed of crisp fries with a sprinkling of cabbage that somehow feels appropriate.
The house-made beef patty is substantial and delicately spiced. It's sprinkled with pomegranate seeds and topped with American cheese, grilled tomato, caramelized onion and arugula. The sesame bun is smeared with an Indian mixed-pickle mayo.
The pomegranate seeds are a delight, they give the burger a pop of freshness and crunch. Unfortunately, the American cheese overwhelms most of the other flavours, and the bottom layer of bun practically dissolved from the moisture of the burger and the steam from the fries.
The Daddy's Burger isn't spicy at all. For those who might be new to the flavours of Indian cuisine, its a gentle introduction. Indian-food lovers, however, might wish for a lot more spice and a lot less processed cheese.
The best thing on the plate has to be the mixed-pickle mayo. It's on the burger but it's also served on side as a dip for fries — and it's a revelation.
Indian pickles can have a pungent, fermented flavour that can be challenging to those who aren't familiar. If you've tried Indian pickles and didn't like them, this dip just might change your mind.
The Indian pickle mayo takes those distinctive flavours and mellows them out in a sauce that is accessible and delicious. If they bottled it I'd buy a case.
The Daddy's Burger, with fries (and mayo), comes to $18.99 before tax and tip. $2 for every Novemburger sold this month goes to the local United Way.
Beaux Daddy's is located about 5 minutes out of town, at 575 Hightway 61.
