Novemburger Review: Red Lion Smokehouse

Red Lion Smokehouse is serving up a Novemburger that's equal parts drama and nostagia.

The Smoke Show from Red Lion Smokehouse.

The Smoke Show from Red Lion Smokehouse lives up to its name — it's smoky and they do put on a show!

This Novembuger is served under a smoke-filled glass cloche. As a server dramatically lift the dome, smoke from a smouldering ramekin of white sage wafts out.

The whole burger is infused with smoky flavour, every bite will evoke memories of camp and cooking over a wood fire.

Doubling down on the campfire nostalgia, the burger underneath all that smoke is a pretty classic bacon cheeseburger.

The combination of American cheese and smoked cheddar creates a nice balance between the cheeseburgery taste of the processed cheese and the melt and stretch of real cheese, although you'll have to take their work for it the cheese itself is smoked.

The 6-oz grilled beef patty is solid, the maple bacon is quite nice, the toppings (onion, lettuce, tomato) and condiments (barbecue sauce, mustard and aioli) are all true to a classic burger, if somewhat upscale.

This burger rings in at $20 before tax or tip, without a side. $2 from the purchase of this and every Novemburger goes to the local United Way.

Red Lion Smokehouse is located at 16 Cumberland St. South.
