The Novemburger at The Eddy Restaurant in Kakabeka is big enough to feed a small army — or one very hungry burger reviewer.
With not one but two five-ounce beef patties, this burger is hefty. The faint of heart or small of stomach may want to ask for a single patty (which the staff will gladly accommodate). Those patties are thick, juicy and clearly house made.
In keeping with the not-one-but-two theme, the 10 ounces of meat is then topped with two kinds of melted cheese, both Swiss and a smoked Gouda.
Piling on the deliciousness is a mix of sautéed mushrooms, peppers and onions that evoke the Philly cheesesteak. Condiments include The Eddy's bacon jam and a dijon aioli. All on a very nice bun.
The flavours are sweet, smoky and tangy in perfect balance.
The sauce is a little drippy, but not too much. This is a one napkin burger. And for it's size, it holds together remarkably well.
The burger is served with a mess of hand cut fries and house gravy. Although they forgot my gravy, I probably couldn't have handled more food anyway. If the rest of the meal is any indication, the gravy is probably great.
Burger and fries come to $18 before tax. For every Novemburger sold $2 is donated to the local United Way.
